Can I connect more than one Naim (NaimUniti/UnitiQute)?

Yes you can. There is no theoretical limit to the number of network players that you can connect to a single UPnP server though you may be constrained by the strength or robustness of your network or by the available processing power on the UPnP server. In the case of NAS drives this can be quite low and you find you can connect only a small number of network players reliably.Note that Naim network players do not support synchronisation of audio across a number of players. In order to achieve this you may wish to consider a more advanced Multi-room system using StreamNet-enabled hardware from the Naimnet range

Can I plug my computer into the NaimUniti?

If you wish to use your PC as a source without using a UPnP serverit must have an optical or co-ax digital output.  This can then be connected to one of the digital inputs of your Naim. The USB socket of your Naim network player can not be used to connect directly to a computer as your Naim will only recognize iPods and ‘Mass Storage Devices’ such as USB sticks. (Although supported Naim do not recommend the use of USB hard discs as they can be electrically quite noisy and can adversely affect the audio performance of the product.

How do I rip to my streamer?

You do not rip to your streamer directly, but must store the files on whichever device you are using as a server, the UnitiServe, HDX, or Uniti Core. All software media players allow you to rip by simply placing your CD in the PC drive and will normally automatically identify the CD and its track listing. Consult your media player documentation for further details.

Should I add a power amp to my NaimUniti, NaimUniti2, SuperUniti or UnitiQute?

All NaimUniti systems have built-in amplifiers that are more than sufficient to drive typical hi-fi speakers. However if you decide you would like to add more power to your system to drive more demanding speakers you have the option of using the preamp output on say your NaimUniti 2 to connect it to a power amp such as the Naim NAP 200 which will deliver 70W and can drive a 2 Ohm load for long periods of time. The advantage of adding a power amp to your system will be to deliver the music with even greater levels of detail ambient information and musicality.

What kind of amplification does Uniti Atom Headphone Edition use?

Uniti Atom Headphone Edition is a class-A amplifier that runs into class-AB when the going gets exciting. When it’s being used as a pre-amplifier, it is pure class-A.   For example, when driving a 600Ω impedance headphone at full volume, the headphone amplifier will remain in class-A. At 300Ω at full volume, the headphone amplifier will remain in class-A for all output except the last few decibels. As the impedance of the headphones drops, then the point at which it slides out of class-A gets lower. Dropping to 32Ω, it will be pure class-A until approximately 3.2mW and then seamlessly and transparently glide into class-AB for the remaining top 25dB.   Music is generally recorded around -20dB so for most usage Uniti Atom Headphone Edition can be considered class-A.

What function does the Headphone button on the Uniti Atom Headphone Edition have?

When using the front-facing 6.3mm and Pentaconn headphone outputs, the Uniti Atom Headphone Edition will automatically mute the pre-amp outputs and turn on the headphone sockets - the headphone symbol on the Headphone button will  illuminate to indicate that headphone output is active. To activate the rear-panel 4-pin XLR output, simply toggle the Headphone button to active; this is because the 4-pin XLR connection cannot be automatically detected, so this is not automatic.  To switch to using the Uniti Atom Headphone Edition as a streaming pre-amp, simply toggle the headphone button off (the Headphone symbol will no longer be illuminated). You can keep any set of headphones plugged in – great for convenience, but also saving unnecessary wear and tear on the headphone jacks. It is even possible to leave multiple sets of headphones attached, for example, if you and a friend wanted to listen at same time, or if you want to keep two sets of headphones ready to go. However, for optimal performance we'd recommend only having one set attached at a time.
