What is UPnP?

UPnP stands for Universal Plug and Play. It is a group of open format protocols designed to make network connectivity easier. It allows different devices on your network to connect to each other. In the case of Naim UPnP products this means they can connect to any other UPnP compatible device such as a Mac PC or Network Attached Storage (NAS) device to stream and play audio stored elsewhere on your network. UPnP technology works on any network technology including wi-fi Ethernet over mains and direct Ethernet. The audio files stored on the UPnP servers attached to your network can be in MP3 MP4A AAC LPCM 16-/24-bit FLAC WMA WAV AIF or Ogg Vorbis formats. Files must not include any digital rights management (DRM) playback restrictions.
