What is a music server?

A music server allows you to store all your music on a hard drive and allows it to be accessed by any number of Naim network players around the home subject to the strength of your home network.  A music server runs music library software which lets you catalogue your music and create and share playlists. You can set up a dedicated NAS (Network Attached Storage) server for your music but you dont need to buy special hardware. If you turn on Media Sharing in Windows Media Player your PC will immediately become a music server that can be recognized by your Naim network player and there are third-party music software packages - such as Twonky and Elgato Eyeconnect - which will turn your Mac or PC into a music server with little effort. For best results however we would of course recommend the Naim UnitiServe and HDX which are both high-quality music servers providing bit-perfect rips of your CDs.
