Should I buy a Naim server?

If you have a large CD collection then its well worth investing in a server as you can (copy) them all to the hard drive and store them conveniently in one place for playback through your system. That way you don't have to hunt around for a particular CD when you want to play it ; your entire collection is available at the press of a key on the remote a click of a computer mouse or the touch of an iPhone/iPad. Convenience is the key: a Naim server will automatically catalogue your CDs by artist album and track enabling easy search and selection of your favourite music. The 2TB hard drive on the Naim UnitiServe and HDX is sufficient to store around 3. 600 bit-perfect uncompressed CD albums. (Assuming a typical CD size of 600MB.) A server will also allow you to store and play back high-resolution music files in better-than-CD high-definition quality up to. And it can scan your network to play back music stored on NAS (Network Attached Storage) drives or network shares in WAV. AIFF, FLAC, ALAC, OGG Vorbis, AAC, WMA and MP3 formats you can partner the Naim UnitiServe with the UnitiQute or Uniti2 to create a multi-room system or use it with a Naim SuperUniti as part of an integrated system. Alternatively you can connect the optical or coaxial digital output of the UnitiServe to the digital input of a suitably equipped amplifier or hi-fi system for playback of CDs or music ripped to the hard drive. And the analogue or digital outputs on the Naim HDX can be used to connect it directly to an amplifier or hi-fi system. If you don't want to make a direct connection then the UnitiServe and HDX are UPnP devices so will act as a UPnP server to stream audio to any compatible UPnP playback device you have in your network.
